Led by singer-songwriter Danny Rivera, the band Sweetwater Rain was formed in Tennessee in the early summer of 2008. Danny, whose strong vocals play to the musical mix of country and rock, has made performing a life’s passion from a young age, as did guitarist/vocals Fred Stallcup and bassist/vocals Thomas Hewlett.
They come from various points on the map in Texas, and spent time honing their craft in bands that found them collectively entertaining music fans across 39 states before arriving in Nashville.
Thomas graduating from Texas A&M with a degree in music soon landed himself a gig playing bass for Capitol Records country singer Allison Page. When Danny later joined on guitar, the two immediately found a strong musical kinship. Fred took up guitar at an early age and recalls many occasions at home playing music with his family. In his early years he put in many miles on the road in nightclubs and bars playing before finally meeting Danny Rivera and Thomas Hewlett.
They all soon discovered they had similar musical tastes “We all spent time in bands that were a vision of what others wanted us to be. Sweetwater Rain is who we are,” adds Tommy. The final component came when they met for a writing session with songwriter and producer Anthony Smith, who has written chart hits for George Strait, Montgomery Gentry, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Rascal Flatts, “We really hit it off,” says Danny, and Smith signed on to produce Sweetwater Rain’s first album.
Sweetwater Rain began working on their debut album in summer of 2011. Their first single is an invigorating sound all their own. “Starshine”, the band’s first single on Curb Records in collaboration with, Ruth Colins is set to hit radio waves very soon. “We want to captivate and entertain fans with our music,” adds Danny. “That’s our hope and what we’re all about.” It showcases the band’s instrumental prowess, and keen sense for not only songs that touch vibrant emotional places but also delivering them with the fullest impact and appeal.
These veteran entertainers are gearing up for a summer of touring-- “We are thrilled to have the chance to go out on the road and visit our fans” says Fred. Sweetwater Rain is known for rocking the country stage with full-throttle energy and sincerity in their live performances and they have no plans of changing that anytime soon.
